Roy Hobbs’ Cactus Classic Takes Shape

Event created to offer week-long RH Western opportunity

Welcome to a new element of Roy Hobbs Baseball in this 20th anniversary year:  The Cactus Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Roy Hobbs Baseball announced April 1 the addition of the Cactus Classic:  www.royhobbs.com/cactusclassic/

The week-long event will be held at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson.  Kino is the Spring Training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and sports 13 diamonds, including Tucson Electric Stadium, and Roy Hobbs has negotiated a multi-year agreement with Complex officials.

The inaugural Cactus Classic will be held September 28 through October 11 with the following age groups:  25+, 35+, 45+, 55+, 60+, 65+ and the Roy Hobbs Women’s Division.

The event will be broken into 2 weeks.  The first week will feature the 25s, 55s and 65s, with the Women’s Division playing Thursday-Sunday of the first week.  The 35s, 45s and 60s will play the second week.  The Tucson event will be one game shorter than the Roy Hobbs World Series in Fort Myers, and games will start on Monday, with the championship of each division determined on Saturday; the Women’s Division title will be settled on Sunday.

The Cactus Classic will continue Roy Hobbs’ unique logistics of checking all players’ IDs prior to the tournament and issuing an event ID card, taking Wednesday off for healing, golf and general relaxation and Roy Hobbs’ policy of making all the games count, regardless of a team’s record in Pool Play games.

And, an added event will be a Locker Room Option, which will be a first-ever offering in a non-fantasy camp setting for adult amateur baseball.

Players and teams selecting the Locker Room option will find their uniforms laundered and hanging in their lockers when they arrive at the ballpark each day.  Their equipment will be securely stored in their locker space.  They can take pre-game batting practice in the in-stadium batting tunnels below the clubhouse.

A staff of professional trainers will help those players get through the week at peak performance. Our training staff will assist the players with game preparations – hydrotherapy pools, heat packs, taping and pre-game stretching and massage. Trainers will also be available for immediate treatment of on-field injuries. They provide post-game icing treatments, and advice for getting players back into action the next day.

The best price – including all discounts – for the Cactus Classic will be $2750 per team.  Teams entering at that fully discounted price by August 8 are guaranteed the same price for 3 years.  Additionally, in 2008, the manager of each team will be given a week’s worth of the Locker Room Option for free.

Two host hotels have been chosen – Holiday Inn Palo Verde and Residence Inn Tucson Airport, and the official car rental agencies are Dollar and Thrifty.  Details on the hotels, car rental options and Tucson area attractions are included in the promotional package on the Roy Hobbs website at this link:  www.royhobbs.com/cactusclassic/

Included in the package are the following downloadable PDF files:

1.    Event Information

2.    A review of the facilities and maps

3.    Locker Room Option pricing and information

4.    Information on Hotels, Rental Cars and Southern Arizona attractions
