Planning 2008: RH dates & fees
Note: Underage player guidelines/restrictions for all divisions under review.
The 2008 World Series will be held Saturday, October 25 through Saturday, November 22, in Fort Myers, Florida.
All Divisions are wood bat, unless noted.
Open (28+) Division: October 25 thru November 1: Overall play begins Oct. 26; field usage will be dictated by Major League Baseball fall Instructional League scheduling of fields. Teams allowed 3 players ages 25-27; playing restrictions apply to games 5 through playoffs.
Roy Hobbs Women's Division: October 29 thru November 1: Play begins Oct. 29; championship on Nov. 1. Open age group. Girls Division is TBA. Metal bats allowed.
Veterans (38+) Division: November 1 thru November 8: Play begins Nov. 2; age minimum is 38 (under-age playing guidelines and restrictions under review; decision expected by March 31).
Masters (48+) Division: November 8 thru November 15: Play begins Nov. 9; age minimum is 48 (under-age playing guidelines and restrictions under review; decision expected by March 31).
Legends (55+): November 15 thru November 22: Play begins Nov. 16; age minimum is 55 (under-age playing guidelines and restrictions under review; decision expected by March 31).
Classics (60+): November 15 thru November 22: Play begins Nov. 16; age minimum is 60 (under-age playing guidelines and restrictions under review; decision expected by March 31).
Seniors (65+): November 15 thru November 22: Play begins Nov. 16; age minimum is 65 (under-age playing guidelines and restrictions under review; decision expected by March 31).
Family/Ties (Father-Son) Division: Dates TBA.
The 2009 World Series will be held Saturday, October 24 through Saturday, November 21, in Fort Myers, Florida. As of October 2007, there are no plans to change the order of weeks; although all 2009 dates are tentative.
Fees
All teams pay a team fee. Team fees do not include player membership fees, which are listed below under 2008 Dues/Insurance.
Roy Hobbs World Series fees for 2008 are $3,450 before applying the discount structure below. These fees apply to all divisions except Family Ties, which will be set separately, and the Women’s Division, where fees will established on a scale proportionate to the games and time played. Teams paying a non-refundable $250 deposit before January 31, 2007 will receive a $150 discount on the 2007 fees. That means the $250 deposit is worth $400 with the applied discount.
NOTE: Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
World Series Fee structure
Key to the fee schedule is the use of cashiers (bank) checks or money orders, as the discount structure remains the same.
The Roy Hobbs-member 2008 World Series fee will be $3,450; non-member teams will pay $4,600. The members’ discount/deadline structure is:
$2,950 if paid in full before Sept. 1 by cashiers check or money order. ($500 discount)
$3,200 if paid in full before Sept. 15 by cashiers check or money order. ($250 discount)
$3,450 if payment is received after Sept. 15, regardless of form of payment.
All fees include a non-refundable $500.
Deadline to enter the 2008 event will be Monday, Oct. 6. (All fees non-refundable as of this date.)
Discounts must be done by cashiers check or money order. Roy Hobbs does accept credit cards, but there are no discounts when using credit card.
Deposit/discounts: Roy Hobbs will send 2008 invoices in January to all 2007 teams with a deposit provision and February 1 deadline for deposits. A $250 deposit will be worth a $225 discount to teams with 5 consecutive years of deposits and a $100 discount to teams with fewer than 5 consecutive years of deposits.
2008 Dues, Insurance
Roy Hobb’s annual dues structure for 2008 is as follows:
2008 Roy Hobbs membership: Roy Hobbs will continue with its 3-tier membership fees, and all three make teams eligible for membership insurance benefits and discounts. In each, players must be registered electronically in order for benefits to be in effect. The tiers are (fees are tentative):
Individual team: $230 per team, paid by June 1 or prior to start of regular season, whichever is first. Includes up to 20 players. Additional players are $20 each (up to 25). Roster MUST accompany payment. (Fee after June 1 or after season begins is $280 per team, up to 20 players; added players are $25 each. Fee after September 1 is $330.)
League: (defined as at least 4 teams; whole league must join) $200 per team, paid within 5 working days of start of league or by June 1, whichever is first. Includes up to 20 players. Additional players are $20 each (up to 25 total). Rosters must accompany payment.
Multi-Year League Discounts (includes insurance): (whole league must join) … $295 per team, per year for 3 years; Includes Liability Insurance and player memberships. Paid within 5 working days of start of league or by June 1, whichever is first. Covers up to 20 players per team, added players are $15 (up to 25). Multi-Year league discounts require a minimum 2-year agreement and are available by contract only. Player Memberships … are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Womens and girls teams will be registered through the annual tournament or through package plans only.
Insurance: Roy Hobbs will offer the $2 million liability insurance with a $5000 secondary medical rider again in 2008. The cost for 2008 is $170 per team for annual policy in conjunction with Roy Hobbs membership; non-member teams may purchase the insurance for $200. The annual policy runs January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008 upon the next renewal. The Roy Hobbs Baseball tournament-only policy for Hobbs-sanctioned/operated events is $110. Additional insured certificates are $50.
